Walter Howard, LPC-A
Walter is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate with a desire to help and partner with a wide range of people from all walks of life. He received a B.S. in psychology from Presbyterian College and a M.A. in professional counseling from Richmont Graduate University, where he specialized in working with children and adolescents.
Walter enjoys working with everyone, but has extensive background with college students, young adults, children, and teens. He especially loves pre-marital and regular marital/family counseling, and is a certified Gottman Level 1 marital counselor. Having taken several detours in his own career path, he also enjoys partnering with clients who are considering a career change, as he is also certified in the Birkman Method, and thoroughly enjoys leading teambuilding activities and day retreats for ministry teams and small businesses.
Before beginning his career in counseling, Walter spent 15 years in Christian Camp Ministry at Look Up Lodge where some of his favorite memories were created while using the outdoors to teach people about who God is and what He is up to in their lives. Walter has also previously worked as a counselor at City Center and has served as a counselor and case manager with Miracle Hill’s Greenville Rescue Mission, where he worked with homeless men who are rebuilding their lives in the midst of job loss, marital separation, alcohol and substance abuse, depression, anxiety, severe mental disorders, suicidal ideation, etc.
He and his wife, Jane, live with their two dogs in Travelers Rest, where they love being close to the mountains, while also being able to hop on the Swamp Rabbit Trail for a run or bike ride. Walter still considers himself a “former college athlete”, although these days that mainly looks like pulling for his beloved Liverpool “Football” Club.
